SARATOGA SPRINGS — Princess of Sylmar proved her upset
victory inside the May 3 Kentucky Oaks was not a fluke.
The Three-year-old filly rallied from last in five to score
by six lengths in Saturday’s Coaching Club American Oaks, giving the filly her
second straight Grade I score as well as the clear lead in their division.
In the Kentucky Oaks, Princess of Sylmar was sent off at
38-1 on Saturday she was sent off because 2-1 second-choice behind Unlimited
Budget, who finished third in the Kentucky Oaks yet is made the 6-5 favorite.
“I
think everyone kind of lost sight of the fact that entering the Kentucky Oaks,
it had been billed because best Oaks we’ve noticed in two-and-a-half decades.
This filly wins it and obtain hardly any respect,”winning trainer Todd Pletcher said. “I think today she put
herself on top of the best choice board, now everyone should know how the
Kentucky Oaks would have been a real race.”
While Princess of Sylmar raced in last, My Happy Face was
setting a leisurely pace around the front-end, getting a half-mile in : 48.98.
Sensing that slow pace, jockey Javier Castellano began to
ask for Princess of Sylmar, who easily went by the tiring Cue the Moon and the
6-5 favorite Unlimited Budget in grabbing charge towards the top of the stretch
while widest of most.
After that, she continued to elongate her stride, winning
for your sixth time from eight begins to go with an extra and, in their own
debut, a fourth-place finish.
Princess of Sylmar returned $6.30 to win, covering the mile-and-a-eighth
in 1:51.07, while Unlimited Budget weakened to fifth for Pletcher in their
first time since finishing sixth against the boys inside the June 8 Belmont
Stakes.
